For well over 40 years human and civil rights have been trampled upon in Syria. Arbitary arrests, torture, censorship, intrusion into private life, blackmail, intimidation, and spying have been carried out by the secret police against Syrian citizens with impunity. We believe that this has gone on for far too long.
The Movement for Justice and Development is unwavering in its support of human and civil rights for all Syrians. That's why we have consistently supported the work of Syrian and international human and civil rights organizations in their campaigns to expose the practises of the secret police and help put a stop to them. For the same reason we have launched the Syrian Exiles and Refugees Campaign, which aims to protect the rights of Syrians living abroad who are denied documentation by the regime and the right to return to their country in safety.
Our goal is to integrate human rights into the Syrian civil code and to promote a culture of respecting human and civil rights in law-enforcenment, the judiciary and in all branches of the government. |
